Welcome to the Geisinger Lab in the Department of Biology at Northeastern University.
Lab Mission
Our lab addresses the challenge of antibiotic resistant bacterial infections. Our focus is one of the most drug-resistant bacterial pathogens known, Acinetobacter baumannii–a scourge of hospitals and agent of sepsis and other difficult infections in patients receiving critical care. To tackle this problem, we study the unique strategies by which A. baumannii builds its protective cell envelope and controls cell division and replication. Understanding these mechanisms in molecular detail will inform the development of next-generation, targeted antimicrobial therapies to aid in the fight against resistant bacterial pathogens.
